Old Work, New Inspiration

These are some watercolors I did, they are actually over a year old. I completed these while in my sophomore year of college, while attending PA College of Art and Design. I really enjoyed watercolor, and I would like to get back into it. Despite being so new to the medium when I completed these, I was quite happy with the end result. Hopefully you can tell what two actresses these are portraits of. So hopefully you guys don’t mind checking out some of my old work.

Grind Hard. Sleep Soft.

NOTE: My scanner was too small to scan the entirety of the images. I had to do some post work in Photoshop to make them “seamless.” So you guys might notice when you view the images in the high res (just click on the image to enlarge).

It’s Disappointing When Others Don’t Like Your Work

But when you don’t even like your own work, it’s so much worse.

This is my final bust for my Production Modeling class. I’m not too happy with it. I mean,it resembles me, but as you can well see, there area lot of issues with it. For one, i must have done my normal maps wrong, singe my mouth is jacked and it looks like i broke my nose. Also, I completely ruined my hair system. I ended up having to do a lot of post work in Photoshop. I was sort of happy with how the skin and sub surface scattering came out. I guess I can’t be too hard on myself though, it was my first serious attempt in Zbrush.

They can’t all be masterpieces. If I get around to it. I’ll post progress shots. I have Character Rigging this month. I hear this class is pretty intense.

I Hate Thinking Of Clever Titles

Quick upload before I get back to work. Self portrait no ref, and a quick character concept I’m working on.

Thank You.

I just want to say thank you for everybody for following me. I have recently started a new Facebook Page that seems to be garnering a significant amont of attention. Because of it, I have recently reached 1000+ views on this blog and that means so much to me. I sincerely appreciate everybody who taken the time to at click my links and take the time to check out my art, whether they liked it or not. I know 1000 views may not be much, but hopefully it’s a sign of bigger things to come.

I am well aware that my tastes are different from others and not everybody is into my style or subject matter. That being said, I am working hard to expand my “palette,” so to speak. I would appreciate if others sent me links or whatever else to other artists or pieces, of any medium, that they enjoy looking at. Also don’t be afraid to comment on anything and give me your opinions, advice or critiques. If you think just because you’re not an “artist” and you don’t have a valid opinion, you are completely wrong. I may make art for myself when I start a piece, but at the end of the day I post it here for everybody to see. If you think something could be better or there is something that bothers you, then tell me. Anything my audience feels or thinks is valid and I will try to take it into account.

I am working on a few pieces right now, one being a simple “Thank You”, for your support. With my school’s workload and scheduling sometimes it’s hard to find the time to do personal work. The way my school is set up, we have “finals” every month. Which is now. I just finished rigging a character for my Rigging Basics class. I am also in the process of finishing my bust I had posted earlier in the month. To be completely honest, it didn’t turn out as well as I was hoping. But that’s how it goes right? Try and try again. I’m going to fail 100 times or more before I succeed. I have come to terms with that, but that doesn’t mean it doesn’t frustrate me. And goes for all of you as well. It doesn’t matter what  you do, or what your profession is. It doesn’t matter how many times you fall, as long as you can pick yourself up and keep going.

Thanks again.

So It Goes.

Working on some fan art  for a band called GutBucket. I’m not getting paid or anything and they don’t even know im doing this yet. My friend’s husband plays in the band, and she gave me a free cd so I figured, why not? Anyway, this is a work in progress but I’ll post it anyway. It’s still too dark and the “guts” aren’t well…”gutty” enough. Haha. W/e it was fun to do.

Heads Up.

I’m slippin again. It’s been a pretty busy month. This school is no friend to ‘free time.’ It’s also not very artistic. So I would post up work here if I cared enough about it. That being said though, I actually am pretty excited about my ZBrush bust. Well I was, until I fucked it up. So after I did some restructuring, I now have to resculpt a whole bunch of details. Whatever. When it’s done i’ll post up progress shots and a final, regardless of whether or not it looks tight. That’s what this blog is for right? So you can follow my progress?

In other news, Odd Nerdrum, an amazing fine artist known for his ‘master style’ paintings has been sentenced to two years in prison. He was charged with tax evasion even though he apparently paid his taxes albeit, late. Also, he’s not allowed to paint while in prison. You can read up on it yourself here and here.

Well, here are a few heads. I need to get back into the swing of things, this school is all 3d. They tell you you need to practice 2d but don’t give you any time. I mean obviously I have a little time but with class and homework im easily doing 65 hours a week. And no, that is not an exaggeration. By any means. I’m always beat.

Bust Update

Just a quick update today. I’ll post more progress shots later. I just want to get these up here quickly.

Never Stop.
